Plum Dandy

by Jennifer Raha

Not intrinsically
but through misplaced items —

a lost scarf, a necklace, a turquoise bracelet.

Nothing substantive.

She no longer wore her favorite clothing,
forgot she owned it.

Did she ever have a favorite lipstick?
An unmentionable joy?

Not even her elderly mother noticed,
the woman who noticed everything.
