Masaya Saito

Masaya Saito: is a poet and translator who grew up in Akita, in northern Japan. In 1993, The Kobe Hotel, his translation of Saito Sanki’s memoirs and haiku, was published by Weatherhill. In 2007, he received the tenth Asahi Haiku Shinjin Award for his 50 Japanese haiku sequence, Gassho (Hands together in Prayer). In 2016, he published Snow Bones, a narrative collection of haiku in English. His most recent works include the translations of Tomita Moppo’s haiku, which appeared in the Autumn 2019 issue of Modern Haiku. EnglishLanguage Haiku 2019. He lives in Tokyo.
