Cafe Review Summer 2018 Icelandic Issue

Bragi Ólafsson: his first published work, the poetry collection Dragsúgur (Draught), appeared in 1986. Since then, he has published poetry, short story collections, plays, and novels. His first novel, Hvíldardagar (Days of Repose) was nominated for the Icelandic Literature Prize in 1999 and his next novel, Gæludýrin (The Pets) was published in 2001. He received the DV Cultural Prize for the novel Samkvæmisleikir (Party Games) in 2004 and his novel Sendiherrann (The Ambassador) was nominated for the Nordic Council Literature Prize in 2008.

Jón Örn Loðmfjörð

Jón Örn Loðmfjörð: better known as Lommi, is prominent in the Icelandic fringe poetry scene. Whenever he’s not causing trouble on the internet with his caustic wit, he’s proactively cultivating the work of emerging poets. He frequently performs his poetry in public and curated a “ljóðagallerí” (Gallery of Poems) in 2015. He has edited the poetry section of the Reykjavík Grapevine and writes for the online cultural magazine Starafugl.

Hlín Leifsdóttir

Hlín Leifsdóttir: studies Creative Writing at the University of Iceland. In 2017, Hlín received the Write US — U.S. Embassy Literary Grant in cooperation with the Iceland Writers’ Retreat. Her work has been featured on Icelandic radio, and she has given readings at the Reykjavík International Literary Festival, NonfictioNow, World Poetry Day (Reykjavik UNESCO City of Literature), and The Poetry Brothel Reykjavik. Her work has appeared in Talking River, Hljóð bók, Veisla, and Vættir.
