Silencers
by Peter Langella
Like magic,
they took the booms
from his rifle.
When he pulled the trigger,
you heard just
whispers and clicks.
But birds fluttered
from the treetops,
deer startled from a brook—
although you heard
just clicks and whispers,
and aimless wind
about a playground
where children lay still.
