by Reed Bye
Inspiration: How does it feel?
Melancholy: Dry as toast.
Inspiration: There are different types. One’s a lip, one’s a striped shawl.
Melancholy: Which do you find most instructive?
Inspiration: The bat sonar (pause). Which eyes do you see?
Melancholy: The ones before last.
Inspiration: In what light?
Melancholy: Muted. Past.
Inspiration: Time includes silence.
Melancholy: Oh?
Inspiration: Mother of us all.
Melancholy: I know I can’t change history. Beaked as it is, hollow-headed.
Inspiration: Did you mention the headset? And?
Melancholy: Voice in the stomach.
Inspiration: That’s where to look. A world germinated.
Melancholy: Light and water, and a hammer.
Inspiration: Not that hard.
Melancholy: I know.
Inspiration: Because it moves.
