Some Poems From the “Old Monk” Series

by Tom Montag

Of all the things I know
I know nothing the most,
the old monk said.

That the light
is on doesn’t
mean I’m awake,
the old monk said.

An old monk
sleeps narrow,
the master told
the old monk,
who passed it on.

The getting there
may not be pretty but
the old monk makes it
up the mountain,
the master recorded.

Some who want to
do and some who want to
don’t and our job is to
find out who is who,
the devil told God, or so
the old monk reported.
